Support Services at the University

Advice

There is a huge range of support available to you. For advice on any matter that is concerning you, visit the Advice Place. Highly trained student advisors can help you with a range of practical problems e.g. what to do if you receive a council tax bill or if you have a question about your rights in the UK. www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/advice

There is a counselling service for students who are experiencing personal problems worries and concerns. Both services are completely confidential. www.student-counselling.ed.ac.uk

Health Matters

There is a health service for students in Bristo Square. You can register at any time, although you are advised to do so as early as possible. Under the National Health Service you will receive free medical advice and consultation. There is also a chemist for you to collect any medicine you have been prescribed. www.health-service.ed.ac.uk/

Careers Advice & Employment

The careers service is there to help you decide with your plans for your future career. They provide one-to-one advice and group events as well as training. There is also a student employment service to help you find a part-time job. www.careers.ed.ac.uk

Immigration Advice at the International Office

If you need to extend your visa during your stay in Edinburgh, you are thinking of stying in Edinburgh to work after studies, or would like to ask any question about your immigration status then you can visit the International Office and make an appointment to attend the Immigration Clinic. At the Immigration Clinic the immigration adviser - Ann McKay will assist you with the application and send your application to the Home Office on your behalf.

The immigration clinic is open each morning, Monday to Friday. You can make an appointment by calling 0131 650 4296 or emailing enquiries.international@ed.ac.uk

Pastoral Care

The Chaplaincy Centre run by Rev. Di Williams offer pastoral care for students regardless of religious affiliation. You can always approach the Chaplain if you need support, advice or help. You can also find information to put you in touch with local religious groups so you can practise your faith in Edinburgh. www.chaplaincy.ed.ac.uk/

Students with a disability

Support office available to any students requiring any sort of assistance. Applicants with a disability are encouraged to contact the office as early as possible to ensure full support throughout the application process and beyond. www.disability-office.ed.ac.uk/


Social Life

If you want to ensure a happy stay in Edinburgh, joining in with societies and events is a sure-fire way to feel connected. You can search for societies on EUSA's web pages. You should also go along to the International Student Centre, which runs trips, events and parties throughout the year. It is great way of making friends. www.international.ed.ac.uk/isc/
